The Phoenix Roadrunners began play as an expansion team in 1974-1975 and put together a competitive team that made the playoffs only to bow out to the Quebec Nordiques in the first round. The Roadrunners finished above the .500 mark once again the following year, only to be defeated once again in the first round of the playoffs. With a new coach in 1976-1977, the Roadrunners’ fortunes took a nosedive and with losses mounting on and off the ice, the team folded after the season. |
