After a successful coaching career at the minor league level, Bobby Kromm made his major league coaching debut with the Winnipeg Jets in 1975-1976. Kromm inherited a talented and diverse roster that had missed the playoffs the previous season and guided them to their first AVCO Cup championship in his first season behind the Jets' bench. The next year, despite a rash of injuries, Kromm led the Jets back to the AVCO Cup finals, where they bowed out in an epic seven-game series to the Quebec Nordiques. Following the expiration of his two-year contract, Kromm jumped to the NHL's Detroit Red Wings and captured the Jack Adams Award as Coach of the Year in his first season in Detroit. Kromm passed away on June 9, 2010.
