Danny Johnson left the NHL's Detroit Red Wings and became the fifth member of the Winnipeg Jets when he signed in June 1972.
Johnson played three seasons for the Jets and served as the captain in 1974-1975, succeeding the retired Ab McDonald. He helped lead the Jets to a Western Division title and an appearance in the AVCO Cup final in the WHA's first season.
The Jets parted company with Johnson after the 1974-1975 season and he retired to his jewelry store in Fort Frances, Ontario. Johnson passed away in 1993 as a result of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). |
