Veli-Pekka Ketola turned down an offer from the NHL's Detroit Red Wings to sign a three-year contract with the Winnipeg Jets in the summer of 1974.
After starring in Finland with his hometown team, Assat Pori, Ketola was a regular contributor for most of the next three seasons and helped the Jets to their first AVCO Cup championship in 1975-1976.
Late in the 1976-1977 season, Ketola was traded to the Calgary Cowboys, where he finished the year. After the Cowboys folded, Ketola returned to Pori for four seasons before spending the 1981-1982 season with the Colorado Rockies. |
