Danny Lawson left the NHL's Buffalo Sabres to sign with the Philadelphia Blazers in the summer of 1972. In the WHA's first season, Lawson led the league with 61 goals and the following season, Lawson scored 50 with the relocated franchise in Vancouver.
Lawson remained with the franchise when it moved to Calgary after two seasons in Vancouver, but the last original member of the franchise was traded to the Winnipeg Jets late in the 1976-1977 season. In Winnipeg, he added some punch to an injury-ravaged lineup and helped the Jets advance to their second consecutive AVCO Cup final.
Lawson retired following the 1976-1977 season. His 218 goals ranks eighth all time among WHA scorers and he was a five-time All-Star selection. |
