Morris Lukowich signed with the Houston Aeros in the summer of 1976 after a stellar junior career with the Medicine Hat Tigers. Lukowich was drafted in the second round of the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, but he opted to sign with the Aeros because of the opportunity to play with Gordie Howe. Lukowich enjoyed two excellent seasons in Houston before the Winnipeg Jets purchased his contract from the defunct Aeros. He had his finest season in 1978-1979 with the Jets when he scored 65 goals in the regular season and added eight more in the playoffs to led the Jets to their third AVCO Cup championship. Lukowich was named a WHA Second Team All-Star in 1978-1979 and represented the WHA in its series against Moscow Dynamo in January 1979. He also played in the 1978 All-Star Game. Lukowich was one of the two skaters the Jets protected going into the NHL and he remained with the Jets until he was traded to the Boston Bruins in February 1985. Lukowich retired following the 1987-1988 season. |
