Frank Blum spent parts of the WHA's first two seasons with the Ottawa Nationals and Toronto Toros, playing mostly in a mop-up role behind regular goaltenders Gilles Gratton and Les Binkley.
Blum's most important game action came when he was loaned to the Winnipeg Jets under emergency conditions during the 1974 playoffs. With the Jets in Houston trailing the Aeros 2-0, starter Joe Daley came down with pneumonia prior to Game 3 and with Ernie Wakely also out with pneumonia, the Toros consented to loan Blum to the Jets. Blum started both games in Houston and though he was blitzed for 10 goals in Game 3, he held the Jets in Game 4 in which they went down by a score of 5-4 to put an end to their season.
Blum's brief pro career ended following the 1974-1975 season. |
