Kent Nilsson signed with the Winnipeg Jets in the summer of 1977 and enjoyed two prolific seasons in a Jets' uniform. He recorded 107 points in both of his WHA seasons and helped lead the Jets to two AVCO Cup championships.
He was named the WHA's rookie of the year in 1977-1978 and the league's most gentlemanly player in 1978-1979.
Following the 1978-1979 season, as they prepared to enter the NHL, the Jets were forced to leave his rights unprotected and he was reclaimed by the Atlanta Flames. Nilsson went on to score 264 goals in 553 NHL games with the Flames, Minnesota North Stars, and Edmonton Oilers. |
