Rugged defenseman Kim Clackson signed with the Indianapolis Racers in the summer of 1975 and he was an imposing force on the Racers' blue line as the Racers captured the Eastern Division title. Clackson's total of 351 penalty minutes was the second highest in the WHA.
The following season, Clackson helped lead the Racers back to post-season play, where they won their first and only playoff series.
In the summer of 1977, with the Racers' franchise in financial trouble, Clackson signed with the Winnipeg Jets and brought some much-needed toughness to their lineup. He helped them to an AVCO Cup championship in each of his two seasons in Winnipeg.
Following the 1978-1979 season, Clackson's rights were reclaimed by the Pittsburgh Penguins, who had drafted him in the fifth round of the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft. After one season in Pittsburgh, he finished his career a year later as a member of the Quebec Nordiques.
Clackson's 932 penalty minutes rank him second all-time in WHA history. |
