After two seasons in the minor leagues, Steve Cuddie signed with the Winnipeg Jets in July 1972. Known as a hard hitter despite his diminutive stature, Cuddie was a regular for the Jets in 1972-1973 as the Jets advanced to the AVCO Cup finals.

During the summer of 1973, Cuddie was traded to the Toronto Toros, where he remained for two seasons.
